Reejov Runners - RUNNING FOR LIFE
Founded by married couple Greta & Chris Truscott
How did Rejoov start? Running & racing is a way of life for head coaches Greta & Chris Truscott and it only seemed natural when Rejoov Runners group took shape in Sydney’s beautiful Centennial Park from 2008. Greta originally started Rejoov Fitness & Sports Massage in 2004 with remedial massage & strength groups for runners & triathletes. At the time she was also a full time Occupational Therapist (2001 to 2007), which morphed into being fully self employed with Rejoov from 2008. Ocean swimming and Swim Run training worked it’s way into the mix too. From humble beginnings, Rejoov grew very organically from the ground up through word of mouth, friends of friends and really started to take off in 2016 thanks to the loyalty of existing members and also due to some more online presence, perhaps more acceptance of a lady coach in the area and maybe some momentum picking up. In the more latter years, Rejoov survived covid restrictions and lock downs through many creative measures and continues to flourish in 2023 and 2024 both in groups and with online programs.
About the group: Big community spirit. Training and racing all year round. Very friendly and supportive right through all ages and stages of life from 20s to 70s. Many youngsters and newbies get involved. Some teenagers jump in with Mum or Dad. All levels from the back of the Packers right through to the speedsters who are getting podiums at big events. Whether you’re slow or fast, all efforts and personal breakthroughs and achievements are celebrated. Heavily involved in charities and caring for the environment that we run and swim in such as Pledge for the Planet. Post-run coffees, brekkies, post-race catch-ups, pub dinners, Coogee 666 pub run race, Christmas awards, Christmas in July parties. Running camps such as Uluru, Thailand, Port Stephens or Clare Valley. Event getaways include Noosa, West Mac Monster, and Hamilton Island. Train hard, run your heart out, soak up the magic on land or in the ocean. You just must keep turning up!!
A bit about Greta and Chris – an ethos of perseverance which is shared with the club – group and online: Chris grew up in Sydney and has been running since he was a kid. He ran his first of 37 city to surfs when he was 9 years old in 63minutes. He has the record for the most consecutive sub 50’s with 25 in a row up until Covid. He was always trying to keep up with his 4 older brothers along with younger sister. Greta grew up in rural NT with her 3 siblings 130km SW of Alice Springs. She loved riding horses, swimming and fishing in the creeks and waterholes and running in the soft sand Finke River. Greta moved to Sydney in 2003 after meeting Chris at Thredbo Fitness Week. They were married 2 years later and have a son Jaden. They still go to Thredbo Fitness Week early January, which is open to all ages and levels and they encourage everyone to go along.
Greta after having a broken ankle as a youngster and a knee operation at age 17, thought she wouldn’t be able to run very far much to her dismay. However, she persevered and most likely has clocked up more mileage in Centennial Park the past 20years+ than anyone and has enjoyed a huge array of events over the years along with Chris. They have both represented Australia in the 100km at the IAU World Champs (Greta at Berlin in 2022 and Chris in Qatar in 2014). One of Greta’s favourite break throughs was breaking 3hrs with a 2.56 marathon in Gold Coast 2024. Chris with a 2.29 marathon, 68 half marathon and 31min 10k, believes all his pbs under 100km are behind him, however he is chasing fresh goals. He still relishes all these distances as well as trail events and is planning his debut 100 miler in Tarawera in 2025.
Greta and Chris love the amazing feeling of running and magic in the ocean. They thrive on the sense of achievement and spirit of competing and enjoy bringing people together to train hard and have a great time! They want to lift everyone to greater heights than they thought they could go. The group factor is very powerful and having a clear program and a coach holds you accountable and helps work things out much better than bumbling along solo.
